Belts are a fun accessory. They can add color or sparkle to your look. They’re great at the illusion of adding length or a flattering shape to your silhouette.
Experiment with different widths. Wide belts can cinch in your waist and emphasize a sexier shape. Have a shorter upper torso? Try a thinner belt to show more proportion and delineation. A straighter body shape can benefit from a belt and give a curvier look.
Have a fun tunic, long button front shirt or a shift dress that you want to change the look of? A belt is the perfect accessory to emphasize your waist.
I really like a nice metal belt. Metals can add an edge to your look and the longer ones with extra links can hang down and lengthen my look. Maybe it’s because I’m from the south, but a leather belt with studs and rhinestones are a favorite of mine that let people know, I’m proud to be a little bit country underneath.
A braided belt can also add more flexibility to wear at the waist or even lower on the hips.
A scarf belt can elongate your shape. Just make sure to start with a scarf long enough to drape a bit at the waist. You can even try weaving a scarf through the loops of a metal belt with an open chain design.
Thrifting or buying from resellers will save you money and allow you to purchase higher quality, well-made, or even designer belts you may not have been able to afford at full retail.
So have some fun and experiment with belts. They can transform a plain look into a look that defines your personality.
